Design Assistance Program Leads to Increased Business for NRMCA Producer Member

When Chris Wood, an account manager of NRMCA Producer member Concrete Supply in Charlotte, NC, pursued a local owner regarding a small shopping center that would house a Starbucks Coffee outlet, he didn’t know this small project would actually turn out to be much larger and provide further additional yardage. The original plans of the shopping center were specified to be asphalt, reports NRMCA Vice President, National Resources, Amy Miller. Wood used NRMCA’s Design Assistance Program (DAP) to develop a relevant concrete specification that was delivered to the owner. The owner accepted the concrete bid and this job that was initially a building pad, dumpster pad and sidewalks added a parking lot and bulk head.

Along with receiving a superior pavement surface, the owner was able to save money by reducing lighting requirements due to the excellent reflectivity of concrete. The evidence of the owner’s delight is evident with the additional projects the owners have brought to Wood and Concrete Supply. "As an industry we should never overlook an opportunity, even one that initially looks small. This project turned out to be much larger than initially planned and gave us the opportunity through the use of the DAP to educate all involved and gain additional future yardage as well as more happy concrete owners," stated Wood.
