Multibillion-dollar Building Boom at Public Universities, Colleges

Public universities and colleges across America spent $11 billion in 2010 and an equal amount in 2011 to build new facilities, according to data from McGraw-Hill Construction. "The cement never dries on a UC campus," said one faculty member, referring to the University of California at San Diego's $2 billion worth of projects in various stages of planning, design and construction.
