Seventeen separate presentations covering a full range of topics on the fundamentals of quality concrete were offered to over 170 attendees at the 59th annual Concrete Technology Course held at the Edwards Campus of Kansas University in Overland Park, KS, reports NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Donn Thompson. The program was organized by the Concrete Promotional Group, Inc. (CPG), the local concrete trade association in the Greater Kansas City metro area.
“The event continues the long tradition of concrete industry support offering general contractors, designers, concrete contractors and municipalities an opportunity to learn about the latest practices our industry has to offer,” said CPG Executive Director Christy Martin.
Much of the presentation content was based on various chapters of the American Cement Association’s seminal guide Design and Control of Concrete Mixtures. (Thompson is seen here, presenting background on the sustainability of cement and concrete based on Chapter 12 of the guide.)
Attendees were given copies of the publication and tested at the end of the two-and-a-half-day event, enabling them to earn continuing education credits for their participation. The program featured local as well as nationally recognized presenters covering a full range of topics, including:
- Principals of Quality Concrete
- Fundamentals of Concrete Materials
- Air Entrainment and Admixtures
- Ready Mix Operations
- Concrete Mix Design Fundamentals
- Reinforcement
- Hot and Cold Weather Concrete
- Sampling, Field Testing and Yield
- Troubleshooting and Low Breaks
- Finishing, Curing and Jointing
