On April 10, NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Frank Mruk supported the use of ICF for Passive House at the Construction Specifications Institute's (CSI) Boston Chapter April meeting. This was the chapter's most well-attended event since COVID with over 65 architects, specifier and engineer attendees (seen here). The event was held at the UMASS Club in downtown Boston.

The Passive House presentation was delivered by Prudence Ferreira, PHIUS curriculum developer and trainer and vice president of sustainability at Thornton Tomasetti. Sponsors included Ken Lynch, NUDURA Tremco CPG; Bob McEachern, Hunter Panels and Jon Singleton of Norbec Insulated Metal Panels. Passive House is an excellent compliant TEDI (Thermal Energy Demand Intensity) pathway for additions, alterations, change of use and new construction in Boston. Many large buildings, including schools, libraries, offices and emergency service stations over 20,000 square feet, are required to follow the TEDI pathway.

CSI Boston was formed in 1956 as a chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute, a national organization dedicated to the improvement of communication of construction information. Membership includes architects, specification writers, engineers, manufacturers, contractors and other participants in the construction industry. CSI is a unique association where members across all disciplines meet regularly with the goal of building knowledge to improve project delivery.

The Build With Strength program is a leader in supporting specifiers and architects in the specification of high-performance, energy-efficient concrete. For more information, contact Frank Mruk at fmruk@nrmca.org.
