NRMCA’s Rashid-Sumar Elected Secretary-Treasurer for Society of Fire Protection Engineers

The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), recently elected NRMCA Senior Vice President, Codes and Standards, Shamim Rashid-Sumar, PE, FSFPE, as secretary-treasurer of the Board of Directors with her term beginning January 1, 2024. Ms. Rashid-Sumar had previously served on the SFPE Board of Directors as a General Board Director.

The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) was established in 1950 and is the world’s leading professional society representing those practicing in the field of fire protection and fire safety engineering. The society has over 4,700 members and 100+ chapters, including more than 20 student chapters worldwide. The Society recently published a position statement titled Engineering a Sustainable and Fire Resilience Built Environment, identifying sustainability and fire resilience as important objectives for the built environment and highlighting the Society’s position that every built environment project should balance these objectives.

“I look forward to serving SFPE in the capacity of secretary-treasurer and as an ambassador of NRMCA. The work of the society is critical to our industry and it is important that we continue to participate as a stakeholder in raising the bar for sustainability and fire resilience in the built environment,” said Rashid-Sumar.
