NRMCA Discusses National Trends, Association Program Updates at Utah State Convention

The Utah Ready Mixed Concrete Association (URMCA) held its annual conference at the AGC Utah headquarters in Salt Lake City with Terrance Savage, vice president, concrete, Geneva Rock Products and URMCA Board chairman and Brad Stevenson of URMCA welcoming more than 100 concrete and industry professionals to the event, reported NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Patrick Matsche.

NRMCA President Mike Philipps (shown here at left with Terrance Savage) presented a recap of 2023, ready mixed concrete production in Utah, a look toward 2024 and Build With Strength and PaveAhead’s focus on resilient and sustainable construction. Concrete Advancement Foundation Executive Director Julia Garbini and Mike Ireland, president/CEO of the Portland Cement Association, spoke on technological advancements available to support ready mix producers to streamline operations; driver retention and recruitment with the Deliver Your Future program; and current and future market trends in the ready mix and cement industries. Ireland also focused his presentation on PCA’s Roadmap to Carbon Neutrality.

Celeste Maloy, a candidate for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District, spoke to the group about her passion around water right issues and bipartisan cooperation in working to solve problems. Bill Lawrence, a director at the Utah Department of Transportation, discussed UDOT's projects scheduled to break ground and those scheduled to be completed in 2024.

Overall, production forecasts look strong, according to Utah officials.The event closed with Brad Stevenson presenting the scholarship winners for 2023 with their monetary awards; winners were chosen from Utah students studying in fields related to or involving the use of ready mixed concrete.

"URMCA’s outreach to the community is a fantastic opportunity to meet with decision makers and others interested to advance the use of ready mixed concrete as the building material of choice,” Matsche said.
