On September 20, NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, and AIA Rhode Island Chapter President Frank Mruk hosted a Rhode Island design week event at the Moniker Brewery in Providence. Speakers included Kat Simonds of DESIGNxRI, Providence Mayor Brett Smiley and Adam Chizmar, architect at REX Architecture who discussed the new Brown University Lindemann Performing Arts Center which is slated to open in October with concerts by musicians Jon Batiste, Itzhak Perlman and Yo-Yo Ma. Brown University says its new Lindemann Performing Arts Center is a "game changer" as it moves to create a multi-disciplinary arts experience for all students.

The Lindemann is a "new animal," Mruk said, a radically flexible yet extremely precise arts typology where performance is not the final product, but another piece of vital research in the creation - and pedagogy - of groundbreaking art and arts leaders. The opening heralds a new era in Brown Arts history and arrives in concert with the extensive creative offerings of campus and Providence-based artists and arts organizations, as well as the renewed commitment to the arts by Providence city government. Over 50 architects, designers and community leaders attended the event.

The Build With Strength program is a leader in supporting innovation at the cutting edge of industry best practices. For more information, contact Frank Mruk at fmruk@nrmca.org.
