NRMCA Producer member Chaney Enterprises, a large, multi-state ready mixed concrete, sand and aggregates company based in Gambrills, MD, held its first Race Night Recruitment event at Dominion Raceway (seen here) in Spotsylvania, VA, on Saturday, June 17, reports NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Frank Gordon who attended the event. CDL Program applicants were provided free tickets to the races which featured Chaney’s own pickup pace car that was well received by race fans since it carried Chaney CFO Daniel Kurek around the track. Gordon and his colleague Malachy Joyce assisted Chaney Marketing Manager Erica Magdelinskas to produce and promote the event while Joyce also filmed and produced media footage for NRMCA's Deliver Your Future nationwide mixer driver recruitment campaign.

Highlights included Chaney’s Drive Your Career Forward CDL apprenticeship program which is a fully-paid CDL training program for concrete and aggregate delivery professionals. Donna Kopf, Chaney’s training manager and program director, along with her training team developed this comprehensive approach to CDL training. The program expects to create 50+ jobs over the next few years and students will participate in 2,000+ hours of on-the-job training with up to 320 hours of classroom instruction. This CDL program is innovative, having a dedicated classroom space featuring a virtual driving simulator. This allows students to experience driving a large truck prior to driving one. But they don’t wait long for that experience since, as they advance through the program, students' skills are tested on a custom road course adjacent to the school.

Contact Frank Gordon at fgordon@nrmca.org for more information on how to develop a CDL program in your region or state.
