Matthew Lemay, NRMCA manager of codes and sustainability programs, presented on Environmental Product Declarations: How to Get Them and How They’re Used at three state trade association events during the first quarter of 2023:

  • The Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association 22nd Annual Technical Workshop in Wisconsin Dells on January 12 - 13
  • The Michigan Concrete Association Annual Conference in Kalamazoo on February 22 - 23. Also at this conference, Gary Mullings, executive vice president/division head, compliance and operations, presented an update on NRMCA and Build With Strength, and a session on NRMCA’s mixer rollover prevention program.
  • And most recently, the Iowa Ready Mixed Concrete Association 74th Annual Convention on March 5 - 7. NRMCA President Michael Philipps also presented an update on NRMCA and Build With Strength activities and progress.

The topic of sustainability and the use of environmental product declarations (EPDs) to report embodied carbon is a topic of growing importance in the Great Lakes and Upper Midwest regions. Among other important factors, there is a rising regional trend of data center construction by large tech sector firms, many of which implement carbon reduction targets on new construction.
