Ohio Students Learn About Concrete Specifications, Testing

Print this Article | Send to Colleague

NRMCA Senior Vice President, Local Paving, Phil Kresge recently spoke with civil engineering students from Ohio Northern University. He was invited to address a reinforced concrete class taught by Dr. Seyed Ardakani, P.E., who wanted to provide students with a “from the field” view of ready mixed concrete. The program was facilitated through Ohio Concrete Association’s Wayne Moening. Kresge's presentation, Understanding Concrete’s Properties and Behavior, discussed the basics of concrete specifications from the perspective of the ready mix producer and contractor. A particular focus was on the need for workability of a concrete mix. Kresge also discussed acceptance testing, and the importance of proper handling and testing of concrete cylinders. The presentation was well received, with great interaction from the students during the question/answer portion.
