NRMCA Members Participate in Quarterly DC Days Fly-In
Last week, NRMCA members participated in the NRMCA Quarterly DC Days Fly-In. Held in conjunction with the Transportation Construction Coalition annual fly-in. The two day event was an opportunity for members to learn about what is going on in Washington and get an on-the-ground update on the big issues of importance to the ready mixed concrete industry. NRMCA members heard from a number of elected officials, political operatives and industry experts on a wide variety of topics, including the political landscape in Washington, regulatory reform, transportation and infrastructure spending, and the dire need for the much talked about $1 trillion federal infrastructure investment.
After a day full of briefings, NRMCA members on Thursday visited nearly 30 congressional offices from 10 states, lobbying members of Congress and their staffs to support a robust infrastructure package and to oppose the Timber Innovation Act. While Congress has authorized funding for surface transportation through 2020, they must appropriate the necessary funds each year. NRMCA members thanked lawmakers for appropriating funding in Fiscal Year 2017 and asked that they continue supporting these important programs in 2018.
Personal member visits to Capitol Hill are the most effective form of lobbying (shown below, from left to right, are NRMCA's Cara Gavagan and members Joe Ferrara of Ferrara Bros., LLC and Becky McCollum of Chaney Enterprises).
Members of Congress want to hear from their constituents and building relationships with Congressional offices is one of the best ways to influence Congress. If you'd like to be a part of the next Quarterly DC Days Fly-In in July, let us know and we'll be sure to get you the information you need. More details will be forthcoming shortly.
