This week, our Colorado SPAR participated in a panel discussion over the topic of local versus state regulation of pesticides in the state. The Interim Water Resources and Agriculture Review Committee held a meeting on September 12th and members of an applicator coalition, including CPCA, spoke on a panel about the importance of retaining statewide pesticide regulation. Additional speakers included two county commissioners who argued that local governments do not have the resources or expertise to properly implement pesticide policy. Another important speaker was a pesticide safety instructor at Colorado State University, who argued that a patchwork of local regulations presents a cumbersome web of regulations that would be difficult for pest management professionals to follow. NPMA and CPCA will continue to educate Colorado elected officials on the importance of maintaining statewide preemption.

Robert Mark Rosenberg (Bob) was born in New York City to Anita Marcus Rosenberg and Walter Rosenberg on December 8, 1950. The Rosenberg family moved to South Florida in the late 50s, where Bob attended school in Dade County. Read the full obituary here.

Over the past week, an outpouring of NPMA members have asked how we as an industry can show our appreciation and support in recognizing the lasting impact that Bob Rosenberg made over his 27-year career. Rosenberg who passed away at age 72, served as NPMA’s Chief Executive Officer and prior to leading the organization, served as its longtime advocate as the Senior VP of Government Affairs.

To honor Bob, NPMA has setup a memorial website where those that knew him can share memories, photos, and tributes to his storied career. Additionally, NPMA is encouraging those that would like to show support for Bob’s passion to the industry to donate to the Pest Management Foundation. NPMA will be continuing its ongoing support through a donation in Bob’s honor of $25,000 over the next 5 years.

Marillian Missiti, President of NPMA, shared these heartfelt words, “This donation will serve as a lasting tribute to Bob’s lifetime of contributions and will support educational initiatives and research benefitting our industry, ensuring his passion for excellence lives on.” Individuals wishing to donate in memory of Bob may do so here.

Tim Pollard, Chair of the Pest Management Foundation, added, "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Bob, a true icon in the pest management community. While serving on the Foundation’s Board of Trustees during his tenure at the helm of NPMA, he was a champion for the establishment of the Norman Goldenberg Fund. Through this donation, we will honor his memory by investing in the future of our industry, just as he did throughout his illustrious career."

The Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA), the consumer marketing arm of NPMA, leads the charge of educating Americans on the threats posed by pests and the importance of working with a pest control professional through its consumer media relations efforts. In its most recent PPMA Update, a monthly newsletter shared with investors and supporters, the group reported July media coverage highlights, which included an article from Good Housekeeping on the topic of gnats. The article mentioned the Spring & Summer Bug Barometer® forecast and included expert insight into fungus gnat infestation causes and prevention methods. BND.com also published an article highlighting expert advice on getting rid of fruit flies.
