In Memoriam – Paul Mages

It’s with deep sadness that we share the news of Paul Mages’ passing. Paul was the former owner of Schendel Pest Services in Topeka, KS. Paul contributed tremendously to the pest control industry, starting his career at just 18 years old as a technician for Schendel Pest Services and retiring in 2006 as an owner of the same company. Paul is fondly remembered as a servant leader of his company, his community, and his industry. We appreciate his support of NPMA and the industry as a whole.

The Pest Management Foundation launched a brand-new Endowed Scholarship program at PestWorld 2022. Donors can establish an Endowed Scholarship named to honor an individual, association, or company. Upon establishment of each scholarship, the Foundation will promote, administer, and grant a $1,000 award to a student meeting the donor’s criteria every year in perpetuity. Scholarship names and criteria are flexible and can be customized by the donor. The minimum gift to establish an Endowed Scholarship is $25,000. Endowment gifts can be paid as a single donation, or over a five-year period.

“Endowed scholarships are an attractive way to create a lasting legacy to honor individuals or companies, while benefitting outstanding students pursuing their education”, said Jim Fredericks, the Pest Management Foundation’s Executive Director. He added, “The ability to spread the donation over five years makes it an accessible way to make a lasting impact”. Companies interested in establishing an endowed scholarship, should contact Dr. Jim Fredericks at jfredericks@pestworld.org.

Heard From the Hill

On October 12th, the Public Policy Committee held a meeting where several topics were discussed during the two-hour session. Subjects included welcoming the new Director of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs, James Darr, to recent updates among the states and new initiatives taken by board members.  NPMA invited their contract lobbyists, Forbes Tate Partners (FTP), to give a presentation on current events and strategy for the upcoming Farm Bill 2023 season. During the meeting the Board voted on the motion to extend the contract with FTP for six more months, which was passed.
