Heard From the Hill

The Assistance & Gratitude for Coronavirus Heroes in Agribusiness Who Are Invaluable to the Nation or The AG CHAIN Act would provide a federal tax holiday and a payroll tax exemption for all essential employees in the food and agriculture industry, including pest control. This tax holiday would take place from February 15 through June 15, 2020, for workers making less than $75,000 annually. The Secretary of the Treasury would have the power to extend this period for up to 3 months. Workers covered are those who “support the sanitation and pest control of all human and animal food manufacturing processes and operations from wholesale to retail.” Please note, this would not include residential pest control or services to manufacturing and retail not involved in food.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) has released new information on forgiveness for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans. The application for loan forgiveness can be found here. NPMA published information to clarify the confusion regarding which loans might need to be returned; the article here has more information.

Congress is also discussing changes to the PPP program. The first is allowing 501 c(6) organizations to apply for loans; under current rules they are not eligible. This would allow any small trade associations to apply for loans if they can demonstrate need. NPMA sent a letter to the Hill today supporting this change.

News From National

Academy 2020 shifts to a virtual interactive experience with flexible participation options

“Innovate. Collaborate. Motivate.” This has been the tagline for the National Pest Management Association’s annual Academy event, and as COVID-19 continues to change the way we connect with others, this tagline is more important than ever. As we innovate and adapt to the current conditions, NPMA and the premiere sponsor of Academy, Corteva, have decided to shift this year’s event to a completely virtual platform.

“After polling our past participants on their thoughts, it was clear that we had to proceed with hosting Academy 2020 in some format,” said Dominique Stumpf, NPMA CEO. “Academy has always been an important event where industry connections are made and leadership skills are gained, and we are excited to deliver the same experience virtually this year.”
