Update from the National Stakeholder Team for Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP) Funding

National Pesticide Safety Education Month is the National Stakeholder Team’s newest initiative, designed to reinforce core principles of safe pesticide use with many audiences and raise awareness of and support for PSEPs. Any group with an interest in the safe use of pesticides is invited to participate, with appropriate messages targeted to private and commercial applicators, homeowners, growers, apartment dwellers, farmworkers, students, technicians, salespeople, shoppers, legislators, and other interested members of the general public. Preparations are now underway for the next National Pesticide Safety Education Month (February 2019), and official sponsors will again provide cash or non-cash contributions to PSEPs.

The National Stakeholder Team (nst-psep.net) was formed in October 2012 to strengthen and support the 50 state land-grant university PSEPs. These programs serve a vital need by educating growers, professional applicators, the general public, and other educators (e.g. county agents.) Team members represent government agencies, universities, industry, professional societies and others. The team’s projects have been diverse, involved directly or indirectly with strengthening and supporting PSEPs. The team’s largest undertaking, the PSEP Improvement and Modernization Initiative (‘PSEP-IMI’), raised over $3 MM from registrants for various projects.
