On February 23, a team of volunteers collaborated efforts to bring comfort and relief to the Salvation Army in Atlanta, Georgia.  P.E.S.T. Relief International, Ashley Furniture, CPCO of GA., and Sword of the Spirit Ministries International, brought in forces to create safe and sanitary sleeping spaces for shelter residents.

The morning began with William Hudson and his bed bug inspection trained K9, Lilly, from Clark Pest Remedy performing an inspection, and breakfast was served for the volunteers to prepare them for the energetic start.

A wave of activity ensued as an army of 20 volunteers unpacked and encased 55 twin mattresses with new bed bug certified encasements.  The new mattresses replaced the worn and tattered bedding that had served faithfully for years.

Ashley Furniture’s Hope to Dream foundation provided mattresses, water bottles, new bedding, and t-shirts, while Mattress Safe® provided bed bug certified mattress encasements to protect and preserve the new mattresses.  Residents of the shelter were eager to help in the restoration process of their living spaces, giving the gift of service while they themselves were being served.

Before leaving, final details were added to every bed.  All 321 pillows were adorned with candy and notes of encouragement conveying to each resident how special and valuable they are.  Loving touches empowered, encouraged and inspired each recipient to forge ahead to a better tomorrow.

Volunteers ended their adventure by going to The Varsity and toasting a job well done with frosted-orange milkshakes.  The perfect ending to a perfect day.

We would like to extend a special thanks to all our devoted volunteers and supporters.
