Senate Briefing on NPDES

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

Last week, the Pesticide Policy Coalition facilitated a briefing for Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works staff on National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits. The briefing included testimony from a variety of applicators and regulators all of whom agreed that the permits are unnecessary, burdensome and duplicative. One applicator testified to the fact that he no longer applies pesticides in certain areas, due to the possibility of civil liability. It is our hope that the briefing will help in advancing the Sensible Environmental Protection Act of 2017 (S. 340) out of committee and then to the Senate Floor. The House version H.R. 953, the Reducing Regulatory Burdens Act passed the House in May.
