NPMA Urging Support for FEC Reform

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

Last week, the Prior Approval Coalition (PARC), of which NPMA is a member, sent a letter to Congressional offices urging their support for the Prior Approval Reform Act (H.R. 2101), introduced by Rep. Amodei (R-NV).  H.R. 2101 would repeal the Federal Election Campaign Act’s "prior approval" requirement when trade associations solicit PAC contributions.  This onerous FEC requirement unfairly discriminates against trade association by making trade associations the only political committee that must first obtain "prior approval," which is not required of corporations and labor unions.   In the wake of Citizens United, the FEC’s rationale for prior approval by trade associations is dated, unfair and unnecessary.
