On March 21 the Pesticide Registration Enhancement Act of 2017 (H.R. 1029) passed the U.S. House of Representatives with bipartisan support by a voice vote. The Pesticide Registration Enhancement Act of 2017, commonly referred to as PRIA, puts in place a fee schedule for pesticide manufacturers to create a more predictable and effective evaluation scheme for affected pesticide decisions and couples the collection of individual fees with specific timelines. Without reauthorization, this important funding allocation was set to expire in September of 2017. PRIA was one of NPMA’s Legislative Day issues, and efforts made by NPMA members carrying the message were well received by legislators. PRIA will now move to the U.S. Senate where we anticipate passage with bi-partisan support.
