NPMA Requests 60 Day Extension For Pyrethorid Draft Risk Assessments

On December 1, 2016 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published draft human health and ecological risk assessments for the registration review of pyrethroids. Last week, NPMA formally requested a 60 day extension to submit comments from January 30, 2017 to March 31, 2017. The amount and complexity of the data included in this publication requires in-depth analysis and thoughtful commentary, which will be nearly impossible to complete in the proposed 60 day comment period.

As directed by FIFRA section 3(g), EPA is reviewing the pesticide registration for these pesticides to ensure that that these chemicals can still be used without unreasonable adverse effects on human health or the environment. NPMA is in the process of reviewing this information in conjunction with the Pyrethroid Working Group (PWG) and the Pesticide Policy Coalition (PPC).

It is our hope that EPA grants the 60 day extension, but regardless NPMA will be submitting comments on behalf of the structural pest management industry that demonstrate the critical role of pyrethroids in our industry while emphasizing their value in protecting people and property.
