The manager of a Portland pawn shop was allegedly shot and killed by a suspected thief last week. The suspect has not been identified. 

Pawn shops that offer financial services, including loans and check cashing, are licensed by the banking commision and are considered essential businesses. 

COVID-19 is shutting the doors on thousands of small businesses across the country, many of which will go underwater in less than a month without federal funding. Financial tech could have a solution to keep businesses afloat by streamlining the federal application, approval and distribution process. 

The CARES act has a lot of positive things for small businesses, but unpacking it can be confusing and overwhelming.
