On December 22, 4 suspects entered the Downtown Seattle Ben Bridge Jewelry store, and did $500,000 in damage while also absconding with 10 Rolex watches valued at over $236,000. of the store employees asked the manager for a list of the items that were stolen in order to provide it to the Washington Pawnbroker’s Association for them to get the word out to all of their members. Once the list was compiled, it was sent out to all board members as well as pawnbrokers. One of the board members sent it on to the Oregon Pawnbrokers Association knowing that there might be a slim chance that the watches could travel down the I-5 corridor in order to avoid detection. Sure enough, a gentleman showed up with one of the watches in a Portland Pawnshop on Thursday afternoon, January 11th. Josh Oller, the owner of the shop, Silver Lining Jewelry and Loan, is the President of the Oregon Pawnbroker’s Association and had briefed his staff about the robbery. An alert clerk notified Josh and they checked the serial number. It was one of the stolen watches. The police were notified, and two more watches from the robbery were found in the suspect’s car. A further search of the hotel room where the suspect was staying produced two more watches from the heist. Good communication and cooperation across state lines has given the Seattle folks a huge break in their case, and we are all hopeful that the remaining suspects will be caught, ending this crime spree, and that the rest of the watches will be found and returned to Ben Bridge.
