Apply for a NEF Resource Grant to Assist in Hosting an Education Event

Whether you are part of a NOMMA chapter or you and another NOMMA member want to host an education event, the NOMMA Education Foundation, Inc. (NEF) has a grant to help offset expenses related to the education program.

The NEF Resource Grant is intended to help deliver education and training to the ornamental and miscellaneous metals industry. If you are interested in hosting an educational event, complete an application.

NEF encourages that applications are submitted at least 6 weeks ahead of the event to ensure enough time to review and evaluate the application. To learn more about the grant guidelines and to view the application, visit the website below.

June marks the halfway point of the year, so it's time to consider checking in with your key performance indicators (or KPIs).

KPIs are a valuable set of metrics that can help you accurately assess your business's growth and general progress for the year. From revenue and profit margins to sales, marketing and customer satisfaction - now is a great time to take stock of your current trajectory, see what's working and what needs improvement, and tweak any ongoing goals you have, if necessary.

Labor Still a Top Challenge for Manufacturers as Optimism Remains Low, Report Finds

A spring 2023 survey by Sikich found that optimism among manufacturing leaders is still low. According to the most recent Sikich Industry Pulse: Manufacturing and Distribution, over half of manufacturers said they now rate their optimism for future business prospects at a 7 or less on a scale of 1 to10.

Top factors given for this less-than-positive trend included:

• Economic conditions

• Labor shortage challenges

• Interest rates

There is some encouraging news, however: 43% of survey respondents said they are seeing consistent or even increased customer demand, while 35% cited some supply chain improvement.

The Small Business Administration is working to streamline and modernize its loans process. The SBA announced that starting August 1, it will begin assessing whether businesses are eligible for agency loans – a task that traditionally falls to financial institutions, who assume the risks of determining a borrower's eligibility. The long-term goal is to expand access to capital for entrepreneurs, and give a boost to small-dollar lending. The administration also said it will be introducing new technology to help verify applicants' information.

Metal Museum's 7th Annual F.I.R.E. Event � May 17-21

The annual Foundry Invitational & River Exhibition (F.I.R.E.) will be back next month at the Metal Museum's Foundry. Now in its 7th year, F.I.R.E. is a conference for metal casting artists of all experience levels. The event will feature instruction from Foundry staff and volunteers, and include access to a variety of pattern and flask materials.

There will also be specialized workshops and a pop-up exhibition highlighting the work of conference attendees. Saturday will feature metal pouring, including aluminum, bronze, and iron, followed by a post-pour dinner.

We have just contracted with a new floor plan and exhibitor contracting platform and will be ready to place our 2024 sponsors in two weeks and open the floor to 2023 exhibitors in approximately 4 weeks. Once we have firm dates, we will send out more information.

The NOMMA Education Foundation (NEF) knows the importance of having access to education in your area. Did you know that NEF offers $10,000 in grants to help chapters and members host education and training?

Grants can be used to cover expenses related to education programming, such as speaker fees and room rentals. If you don’t have a chapter in your area, two NOMMA member companies can apply for a grant to host an educational program.
