Have you been pondering the decision of purchasing new equipment? As your business continues to grow, this is a question that you may be faced with. There are several things to consider when deciding to purchase equipment:

•       Will it pay for itself?
•       Does this have long-term value? (one job or future projects)
•       Is it better to lease or buy? (What is your current cash position?)
•       Do you purchase the equipment new or used?

In any case, you must be very clear on what your business goals are before you make a purchase decision. Consider the many  variables that impact a growing business such as: capital investments vs outsourcing, owning vs renting, shop space and consumer market. With growth comes the opportunity to assess where and how you want your business to expand.  Unable to join the Roundtable discussion? 5 Under 40: Mike Kinnikin

Mike Kinnikin was born to be a craftsman, literally! At a very early age he learned the trade at his parent’s family-owned business Eureka Forge. He worked summers and weekends until he went to college. Mike has a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla. Upon graduation he turned down several job offers in order to join his father at Eureka Forge. When Mike’s father fell ill, he took over the company with the support of his parents and made it his goal to keep Eureka Forge moving forward. Mike has won numerous awards through the National Ornamental and Miscellaneous Metals Association (NOMMA), and he was recently nominated to a three-year term on their board of directors, a seat previously held by his father five years earlier.

A robust economy is the obvious answer, but top remodelers are grateful for less tangible things, too

Exterior remodelers have plenty to be thankful for this Thanksgiving — and forecasts show that should remain the case at least through 2020.

Big-ticket remodeling activity nationwide recently hit a new high, rising 1.2% in the third quarter from the second and 4.8% from 2016's July-to-September period, according to Metrostudy's latest Residential Remodeling Index (RRI).

The index rose to an unprecedented 110.0 in the third quarter. That means economic conditions known to influence remodeling activity are 10% better than the old peak in early 2007, just before the Great Recession. The RRI has shown year-over-year gains for 22 consecutive quarters.

Here are three ways a Chief Culture Officer has transformed their organization in order to recruit and retain Millennials.

Organizations trying to fill industrial jobs or skilled trade jobs are struggling to recruit and retain Millennial workers. In fact, 64 percent of Millennials said they wouldn't consider working in construction even if they were paid $100,000 or more.

Yet, Power Design, an electrical contractor, was recently named Inc.'s 2017 Best Workplaces and has had big success recruiting and retaining Millennials. The short answer to their success: company culture.
