Spring and Harvest by Maynard Studios |
Gold: Maynard Studios
Title of Entry: Spring and Harvest (set of Garden Gates) Designed by: Fabricator Material: Hand forged steel with milled bronze hardware Finish: Professional primer and Rust-Oleum topcoat Total Labor Hours: 250
These two pairs of solid, forged mild-steel gates honor the garden’s cycle of seasons and growth. At the entrance (the closed gates shown in the photos), a tree and spring vegetation appear as raindrops fall—dripping across the gate and renewing the budding plants and the acorns on the tree. At the exit (the open gates), the scene shifts to harvest: corn stands full and tasseling, acorns are poised to drop, and the garden is at its peak. Each gate features a basket-weave pattern along the base, with drop pins and escutcheons machined from bronze.
Check out our official winners video online here.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology MIT researchers report that subtle chemical “orders” persist even after conventional processing, influencing properties like strength, durability, heat capacity, and radiation tolerance. The finding reframes assumptions about alloy behavior and could guide how fabricators specify and heat-treat metals.
