Bill HainsNOMMA offers its deepest sympathies to the family of Louis William “Bill” Hains, father of Max Hains and founder of MoFab. Bill passed peacefully with family at his home on January 16th, 2023.

He was born on January 18th, 1934 to John and Mary Clymer Hains in Connersville IN. He met his wife, Margaret, while playing cards at his aunt and uncle's home, and married her in 1956. The couple moved to Fort Campbell, KY where Bill served his country in the United States Army 101st Airborne from 1956 – 1958.

Bill first learned the welding trade from his cousin, Gib Mason, and began welding in a one-car garage. With a lot of hard work and a love for ornamental iron, Modern Fabricating was founded in 1958, in the back yard at 24th and Madison. As the company grew, they moved to 14th and Fairview St. and shortened the business name to MoFab. Bill and Margaret’s grandsons continue to run the family-owned business and they are proud that MoFab maintains a reputation for quality products and services.

Bill was a creative entrepreneur. In addition to MoFab, he established Future Fabricating, Cerline Ceramic Corporation, Ornamental Iron and Muncie MoFab Concrete division. He also owned The Three Pigs Restaurant in the early 1980’s. With each endeavor, he maintained a solid work ethic and commitment to family and customers.

Bill was a committed and compassionate leader in the Anderson commnunity, and also served as president for NOMMA, where his accomplishments were recognized with the 'Work Horse' award.

Bill and Margaret Hains were a family-oriented couple who loved playing cards, hosting gatherings, going camping or travelling with family and friends. They especially enjoyed boat rides and vacations with their close friends, Bob and Judy Moffatt. Later in life, they became “snowbirds” and happily spent the winters in their channel-side home in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Most of all, Bill provided a wonderful life for his family. He managed to instill a strong work ethic in all of his children and many others around him. Bill is survived by his children; Robert (Sherry) Hains, Lorraine Hains, Max Hains and Bruce (Lydia) Hains, as well as many grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years.

The family is very appreciative of the love from his caregiving angels who helped him to stay in his home. The family also gives heartfelt thanks to Bob Moffatt for his help and devotion.

In remembering his father, Max Hains said, "Dad will be greatly missed, but knowing he is with mom again gives us great comfort. Wherever the destination, Bill modeled for others to always leave a place better than you found it. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy of honest work, generosity and good humor. He was a loyal son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend."

NOMMA members can find visitation information, post their condolences and read Bill's full obituary online. The family asks that contributions be made to either the NOMMA Education Foundation or the Christian Center.

The NOMMA community is deeply saddened by Bill's passing, but celebrates the wonderful legacy that he has left behind.
