ICC Part B Code Hearings

The International Code Council held the 2024 part "B" public comment hearings this fall in Louisville, KY. NOMMA's code consultant, Tom Zuzik, Jr., was in attendance on behalf of the association, and outlined the key takeaways from the hearings in our November/December issue of O&MM Fabricator.

Updates include:

  • RB105-22, NOMMA's proposal to allow the nosing project to vary from flight to flight in a stairway;
  • RB106-22, a code change (already approved) that removes the requirement of the maximum limit on the depth allowed for treads under nosings where open risers are allowed to be installed, and allows no max limit for a nosing on open risers;
  • RB110-22, NOMMA's proposal that reorganizes and consolidates all the handrail requirements into one section of the model IRC, thus eliminating confusion and conflict between sections of the code depending on whether the handrails are on a ramp or a stair flight.
  • And much, much more.
