Finish Type: Brushed satin; incralac for final protective finish

Total Labor Hours: 520

Process: Restoration, sanding, buffing, finishing

Custom Metals Inc. restored a total of six bronze cathedral doors, which were all heavily corroded due to their location along a busy street, where they were frequently splashed with sludge and salt water by winter traffic. By the time Custom Metals was hired, the client had already hired two previous firms to clean the doors, with less-than-satisfactory results, to say the least.

One of the biggest challenges of the project was the massive weight of the doors, which had to be transported to the shop for proper restoration. The doors were fully disassembled and stripped of old lacquer and corrosion; then, every visible surface was given a brushed satin finish and multiple corrosion-inhibiting clear coats. The jambs and window arches were carefully restored onsite.
