This year marks 34 years since the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) developed the first edition of NFPA 70E. The most recent version, the ninth edition, which was published in 2011, represents the best known policies and procedures for protecting personnel from energized electrical hazards, such as electrocution and arc flash hazards in the workplace.

Regulatory & Legislative Updates
OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard is now aligned with the United Nation' Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals. This update provides a common approach to classifying chemicals and communicating hazard information on labels and safety data sheets. The first deadline in the implementation phase is Dec. 1, 2013, the date by which employers must train workers on the new label elements and safety data sheet.

MWH was awarded third place in the AGC/Willis Construction Safety Excellence Awards, unveiled at the association's annual convention in March. Following an oral presentation and interview with MWH Constructors Director of Operations, western region, John Cevaal, the firm was honored at the event in Palm Springs, Calif. The third place award was won in the Construction Management 500,000+ hours worked category.
