Printing Solution in the Field

Q. Has anyone run across a printer that’s an all-in-one solution that works with direct-connected laptops as well as over the air with iPads?

Thanks,

A. We have standardized on the HP OfficeJet 8600 Pro for the past couple years; it’s about $200 and has great durability. Since it is ePrint-enabled, supers and PMs can print to it wirelessly from their phones and tablets using the assigned email address without any extra software needed. Also, we use Verizon hotspots on our jobsites, so the HP 8600 wireless printer is connected to the network. From there, we set it up as a standard IP printer on the jobsite laptops, allowing it to be used by more people without needing to directly connect.

A. We have used Brother printers for direct connect at jobsites. The latest series, MFC-4710DW, has a smaller footprint but still allows for 11x17 and 8x11 printing with multiple trays. It does have a wireless option but we are not using it for that purpose. iPads do not follow our model but I believe there is an app for Brother printers called iprint&scan. Wished success with your research.

A. We use an HP Photosmart B210 – all in one printer, scanner and photocopier. It’s about $125. You can send jobs to print via email directly to the printer, connect with iPads or iPhones over wi-fi/eprint, or connect directly via USB. It is probably discontinued but I am sure it has been replaced with similar model.

A. We put an Epson WorkForce WF-7510 on one of our jobsites with mobile print capability. It will also print on 11x17 paper. It was $179.99 from Amazon.
