Q: Does anyone know of a way to share a MS Access database over the internet? I believe this may not be possible but I wanted to see if there were any options. As an alternate solution, I would consider using WSS 3.0 to post the most up to date MS Access database which could be downloaded and ran locally by users. However, it appears that the webpart upload document will not allow for even storage of access databases. Are there other webparts that would allow for storage of an MS Access database?

A: We host our shared Access database on our Citrix server via the web interface.  Front-end GUI on Citrix, back-end on our SQL server.  We also have SharePoint, but have not found any easy solution to replicate what we have already customized in Access.

A: Are you trying to share this with external users or Internal Staff? You have a few options.
1) You need to split your database into front end (Forms, reports etc) and back-end (tables and data). Put the back end on the main server and copies of the front end on client machines. Link the tables from the front end to the back-end (Menu>External Data>Link tables)
2) Use VPN or Citrix on a webserver and give people access to the server.
3) I know some online tools offer a service. But they will migrate your Access database and host it. Check http://www.zoho.com/creator/migrate-msaccess-database.html
4) In Access 2010, there is Access Services for SharePoint to build a web database application. I don’t use SharePoint much anymore, so I only have basic information. No Experience with this.
But when you publish in Access 2010 a SharePoint site that contains the database is created. All the database object and data will be on SharePoint where Visitors can access it. You can set permissions for Visitors in SharePoint. Forms etc will run in the browser.
