FROM THE IT FORUM

The IT Forum gives AGC members an opportunity to discuss best practices and garner feedback about products and services that increase efficiencies. The following questions and answers were taken from recent forum posts.

Q: Did you know prior too using Virtual Desktops with Thin Clients that Blackberry Desktop Manager and iPhones would not work when connecting to the Thin Clients?
Jim Gaba
Sierra Nevada Construction, Inc.

A: 4.5 works with iPhone and Blackberry. By default there's a long list of USB devices blocked. Check here: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1664309#1664309
USB support gets better with 4.5. Who is supplying your thin clients? These are things that your thin client rep will be more forthcoming about than VMWare, but to answer your question, yes we knew the limitations before rolling this out.
Geoffrey Smith
Schweiger Construction Company

A: Yes on the BB Desktop, wasn’t sure (never tried) with iTunes. View does support USB, ESX didn’t pass thru for server side USB in 4.0. 4.1 does.
Todd Eldredge MCSE, VCP, CCA

Q: We are currently evaluating project management software and are looking for feedback specifically on any project management software that has been successfully integrated with Sage Timberline Accounting and Estimating Software.  We have seen and evaluated the Sage Timberline Project Management software but want to evaluate any other viable options prior to making a final software selection.
Mark Kutchen, CPE
Story Construction Co.

A: We currently use Sage Project Management for the very purpose of integration into Sage Timberline.  We used to use Primavera Expedition.  It has been a transition, but the project assistants that work in it like it and it is very customizable.
