On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Constructors Association of Western Pennsylvania's Rich Barcaskey called on federal lawmakers to increase investment in transportation. The event is part of a series of appearances to promote the launch of AGC of America's #DriveBetterRoads campaign which encourages people to take photos of bad traffic, aging bridges, and poor road conditions and share them through social media platforms. Construction projects like the refurbishment of the Liberty Bridge, where the media event took place, will be in jeopardy unless more money is authorized. The temporary extension of transportation funding is set to expire on May 31. In addition to the social media campaign, AGC has created a website that allows people to contact their lawmakers.

The House approved a measure to rescind the administration's controversial proposed rule redefining "Waters of the U.S." By a vote of 261-155, the House passed H.R. 1732, which would require EPA and the Corps to withdraw the regulatory proposal within 30 days and then set up a consultation process with state and local stakeholders as well as industry and small businesses in an effort to craft a new, better rule.

In an industry faced with change at every juncture, one factor remains constant: building relationships. Giving your word to a co-worker, client, or industry colleague and living up to that word can’t be replaced by technology or a new process, according to Shad James, president and COO of Jaynes Construction, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. "We are confronted on a daily basis with new technology, new equipment, new people," he says, "but buildings cannot get built without the relationships between contractors and owners, architects, engineers, suppliers, subcontractors, and communities. It is what I love about our industry." James recently provided Constructor and its readers insight on this great industry from his Construction Corner.
