Advocacy
On May 13, the U.S. Department of Treasury issued an interim final rule (IFR) detailing how the $350 billion in state, local, and territorial government funding provided through the American Rescue Plan Act can be spent. AGC plans to provide comments on how this guidance can be improved to better allow for infrastructure and building construction investment necessary for pandemic mitigation and recovery.

The cost of goods and services used in construction accelerated further in April as more items logged double-digit increases over the past year, according to an analysis by AGC of America of government data released recently. Meanwhile, nonresidential contractors struggled with delays in receiving materials and intensifying competition that limited their ability to pass on higher costs. Association officials urged the Biden administration to quickly roll back tariffs and quotas on imported construction materials that are adding to costs and availability problems.

In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, DPR Construction was facing a challenge many contractors were experiencing. A rash of infections had popped up at a San Diego jobsite that threatened their ability to stay on schedule. Ignoring the pandemic wasn’t an option, so instead, they started looking for solutions. As the conversation shifted from the obstacles to important lessons, it became apparent that the topic my fellow BD Forum members were sharing would be beneficial to the entire AGC community.

Milwaukee Tool will, once again, expand their footprint in the United States (US) with the announcement of a new manufacturing facility in Grenada, Mississippi. Anticipated to open in late 2022, this new facility will accommodate increased capacity for the company’s growing power tool accessories and power tool business. With this facility, Milwaukee has committed to creating 1,200 jobs in the region.
