AGC of America is proud to announce the launch of the 2020 AGC Awards competitions! The Construction Risk Partners Build America Awards (including the Marvin M. Black Partnering Excellence category) and AGC in the Community competitions recognize the nation’s most impressive construction projects ranging across the building, highway and transportation, utility infrastructure, and federal and heavy divisions; those contractors excelling in their partnering and collaborative endeavors; and the charitable contractors and chapters giving back to their communities. AGC member companies and chapters in good standing that meet the competition requirements are encouraged to apply online for some much-deserved recognition. Apply by Wednesday, October 23, 2019, for full consideration.

What the younger generation is looking for in an employer

Anyone who is familiar with the world of construction knows about the limited supply of construction talent that industry leaders are grappling to manage. That number is jarring enough, but it’s especially disconcerting for the construction industry, as baby boomers make up a substantial amount of the industry’s workforce.

Weighing the advantages against the challenges

After years of promise, prefabrication and modular construction are finally being used to tackle large construction projects at scale. The industry is now seeing prefabrication grow on work from prefabricated electrical panels to curtain wall systems, both of which involve repetitive elements that can be made more efficiently in a factory environment and then inexpensively transported to the project site.

How human resources can make things better, not worse

Just as unforeseen site conditions can test a contractor’s problem-solving skills, unexpected events can test a construction employer’s crisis-management readiness.
