Skanska Awarded Aligned Data Center Project in Phoenix

Skanska, one of the world’s leading construction and development firms and a member of multiple AGC chapters, has started construction for Aligned Data Centers’ Phoenix facility located at 2500 W. Union Hills Dr. in north Phoenix. The 550,000 square foot, 65MW facility will be one of the largest data centers in Arizona and will offer the industry’s first offer pay-for-use model to enterprises and service providers looking to reduce risk and improve control of their data center.

The first phase of the project will be built to Tier III reliability standards and includes 150,000 square feet of data center build-out to accommodate up to 14 megawatts of critical power and cooling with approximately 25,000 square feet of high-end office space. The mechanical and electrical plant has been engineered to reduce energy waste and consists of redundant generators, medium voltage uninterruptable power supply (UPS), static transfer switches, distribution gear, and the Inertech cooling infrastructure. Aligned Data Centers will be guaranteeing a 1.15 Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) for its clients to help them reduce their monthly power bill.

"We have engaged the industry’s leading design, engineering, and construction firms to deliver the most reliable and efficient data centers available on the market," said Thomas Doherty, Chief Operating Officer for Aligned Data Centers. "And coupled with our pay-for-use model, we believe our clients will be able to significantly reduce data center expense and have the capacity they need to grow their business."

"We understand that businesses are relying more and more on the ‘the cloud’ to meet their customers’ expectations," said Skanska Executive Vice President and General Manager Ross Vroman. "Our team is focused on safely delivering this project on schedule so that Aligned Data Centers can support each of its clients and their stakeholders."

In July 2013, Skanska, which is active in both the building and civil construction markets, announced it had moved its building operations to 4742 North 24th Street in Phoenix, just south of Camelback Road.
