Sundt Completes Student & Faculty Support Building at California State University, East Bay

Sundt Construction, Inc., a member of multiple AGC chapters, recently completed construction of the new Student & Faculty Support building at California State University, East Bay in Hayward, California.

The $40.5-million project included demolishing the existing 13-story Warren Hall, along with a two-story bridge that spanned West Loop Road and connected the building to the campus’ main library. Sundt replaced the aging building with a modern, energy-efficient five-story structure located on the east side of the campus, adjacent to the existing Student Services administration building. Sundt also closed the opening in the library created by the bridge removal, adding a window to capture a stunning panoramic view of the San Francisco/Oakland Bay.

"Our extensive experience constructing higher education projects played a vital role in delivering this project safely and with minimal disruption to campus life," said Sundt project manager Marie Crist. "The new Warren Hall will not only improve working and learning conditions for the faculty, staff and students, but also provide a safer, seismically sound environment."

Originally built in 1971, Warren Hall has served as a high-profile, anchoring landmark on the California State University, East Bay campus for more than 40 years. The replacement building, an attractive campus centerpiece in its own right, features 67,000 gross square feet of faculty office and administrative support space with metal ceilings, stainless steel wall panels and terrazzo flooring. The building was designed to include energy-efficient, environmentally friendly features and is expected to earn LEED Gold certification.
