AGC San Diego 2015 President Walt Fegley, Reno Contracting, Inc. and the AGC San Diego board of directors are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Eddie Sprecco as the chief executive officer of AGC San Diego Chapter, Inc. The appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2016.  Mr. Sprecco succeeds Jim Ryan who has served as CEO since 2000.  Ryan had previously announced his intent to retire as CEO effective Jan. 1, 2016.

Mr. Sprecco currently serves as the AGC San Diego director of engineering construction and industry relations. Prior to joining AGC, he held a number of key legislative and government relations positions in the offices of members of the California Legislature. He has also served in a senior position in the Office of County Supervisor Bill Horn.  

Mr. Sprecco grew up in San Diego, graduating from El Capitan High School in Lakeside. He went on to graduate with a degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of California, Davis.  His studies also included Civil and Environmental Engineering.  

Sprecco was recommended for the CEO position by an AGC CEO Search Committee that was chaired by AGC San Diego Past President and AGC of America National Director Nigel Cary, Cox Construction Co. The Search Committee included the following members Walt Fegley, president/COO of Reno Contracting, Inc.; Jon Cloud, president of J. Cloud, Inc.; Eric Stenman, national COO of Balfour Beatty Construction; Thomas L. Brown, president of Sierra Pacific West, Inc.; Diane Keltner, president/owner of Synergy Electric, and Don McKillop (legal counsel) owner of Law Offices of Donald R. McKillop.  The Search Committee was involved in the CEO search for over one year.  After reviewing 95 resumes and interviewing a number of candidates, the committee recommended Sprecco to the board for the position.  The AGC board unanimously approved the recommendation. 

The AGC board also unanimously approved a restructuring of the AGC staff beginning Jan. 1, 2016. This restructuring recognizes the AGC's growth during the past decade and is designed to distribute staff responsibility to allow for enhanced member service and future growth of the AGC San Diego Chapter, Inc. 

As part of the restructuring, Jim Ryan will continue with the AGC on a part- time basis through 2017.  Ryan will be responsible for AGC labor relations efforts including negotiating and administering AGC labor agreements with the building trades unions, as well as serving those members not signatory to the labor agreements with their labor relations, prevailing wage, labor compliance etc. issues. Ryan will also assist Eddie Sprecco during the next two years. 

Brad Barnum, formerly the AGC vice president of government relations, has been promoted to AGC San Diego executive vice president. This position will include a number of key administrative duties and increased responsibility for AGC's local, statewide, and national government and industry relations efforts. Brad will work closely with Eddie Sprecco on sensitive and complex matters affecting the industry, and will oversee AGC's government relations activities with AGC's advocates in Sacramento and in Washington D.C., as well as being responsible for AGC's local PAC and lobbying efforts.  He will also head up AGC's liaison efforts with all key San Diego agencies. 

Jessica Kovack, formerly AGC's director of communications and information services, has been promoted to AGC's executive director of administration. This new position involves managing AGC's office and support staff, overseeing AGC communications and information systems, managing the AGC Bidding Information Service, and ensuring that AGC systems are providing the best possible service to the AGC membership. This position recognizes the necessity for AGC to provide the most up-to-date systems and procedures in order to give the AGC staff the tools to perform at the high level that the membership expects. 

In addition, Sprecco will work closely with other key members of the AGC staff. Rae Krushensky, the director of meeting and events/membership services, and Phil Hurley, AGC's controller, will report directly to Sprecco. 

Glenn Schaffer will work with Sprecco to direct AGC's education and marketing programs, and Marcy Knopman will serve as Eddie's executive assistant and continue to oversee operations.  

AGC President Walt Fegley noted that the staff detailed above and the remainder of the AGC staff are "recognized as one of the top staffs within the AGC's 90+ Chapters." Fegley and the board are proud to name a current member of this top-ranked staff as the new CEO.  They are confident that under his leadership, with the help of this excellent staff, AGC San Diego will continue as one of the elite AGC chapters.
