Sundt Selected to Build New Shasta County Courthouse

Sundt Construction, Inc., a member of multiple AGC chapters, has been selected as the construction manager at risk (CMAR) for a new courthouse in downtown Redding, California.

The $159.2 million Shasta County Courthouse will sit on a two-acre site located directly across the street from the existing courthouse, which houses the Main Courthouse and Annex, Justice Center and Juvenile Court. Scheduled to be completed in 2020, the six-story, 165,000-sq-ft facility will provide a new, 14-courtroom facility, consolidate the adult and juvenile court operations into a single location and deliver two additional courtrooms to support planned new judgeships.

The new court complex also is expected to resolve security, access and overcrowding issues experienced at the existing facility. "Our history and experience with courthouse construction will play key roles in developing this project on time, under budget, and in accordance with the associated regulations and standards," said Sundt Vice President Wayne Einbinder. "And, perhaps, most important to the local residents, the new courthouse will benefit the community by upgrading the operational efficiency of the court and modernizing the design of the buildings, some of which dates back to the 1950s."

Within the past five years Sundt has built eight courthouses, including four in California – Mammoth Lakes Courthouse in Mono County, South County Justice Center in Tulare County, Richard E. Arnason Justice Center in Contra Costa County and the soon-to-be-completed Kings County Courthouse in Kings County.

The Shasta County Courthouse is in the architectural design-preliminary plans phase. Construction is expected to begin in mid-2017.
