Brasfield & Gorrie Completes $17.5 Million Freestanding Emergency Department

Brasfield & Gorrie, a member of multiple AGC chapters, recently announced that the company has completed construction of a freestanding emergency department at Carolinas HealthCare System SouthPark in Charlotte, N.C.

The project, which totaled $17.5 million in construction costs, involved a one-story, 30,000-sq-ft freestanding emergency department as well as a three-level, 60,000-sq-ft parking deck addition. Located adjacent to the medical buildings and urgent care operation at Carolinas HealthCare System SouthPark, the facility includes 14 treatment rooms, two observation rooms, laboratories and a pharmacy.

Serving as construction manager, Brasfield & Gorrie’s Raleigh office partnered with architect BBH Design on this project. The team incorporated numerous innovations in the construction of this facility, including the use of building information modeling (BIM) to a degree not previously seen in the Charlotte market.

The 24-hour emergency department opened to the public on May 12, 2014.
