On Oct. 5, 2013, Providence College dedicated its newly-built Ruane Center for the Humanities, a $20 million, 63,000-sq-ft facility that is now the college’s signature academic building on campus. Dimeo Construction, a  member of three AGC chapters, was the construction manager on the project.

The Ruane Center for the Humanities is the home of the College’s Development of Western Civilization program, the Liberal Arts Honors Programs, the English and History Departments and the School of Arts & Sciences.  The building symbolizes PC’s commitment to the liberal arts, the humanities and undergraduate education.

The building is named for the College’s former Board of Trustees Chair Michael A. Ruane and his wife Elizabeth who provided the lead gift allowing for the building’s construction.  The architect for the building was S/L/A/M Collaborative (Boston, Mass.).

The building features flexible instructional space and technology designed to engage students in their learning.  Instructional space includes four large classrooms as well as 12 seminar-style classrooms each accommodating 18-20 students.  Group and individual study space, as well as faculty and student lounge/community space are also prominent features.
