Montgomery County Awards Costello Construction Contract for Silver Spring Library
Costello Construction, a Maryland-based firm providing general construction services to public and private sector clients and a member of AGC of Metropolitan Washington, DC, is pleased to announce it has been selected by Montgomery County to build the new library in Silver Spring, Md. This 70,000 sq-ft, $35 million project is expected to meet the unique needs of an increasingly urban, ethnically and culturally diverse residential and business community of Montgomery County.
Costello Construction will team up with architect The Lukmire Partnership to build the library from the ground up with the goal of completion in 22 months. This LEED Silver–certified building will be divided into five stories, with the library occupying the third, fourth and fifth floors. The third floor will contain the meeting rooms, media collection, the young adult area, the disability resource center and the main circulation work area. The fourth floor will house the adult collections with a large, quiet study room overlooking part of Silver Spring. The fifth floor will be the children’s floor with an integrated early learning area, program room, tutor rooms and another meeting room. There will be computer workstations throughout the entire building as well as seating and electric outlets for those who choose to bring their own laptops or tablets.
Pyramid Atlantic, a non-profit art group, will occupy part of the basement, part of the first floor and the entire second floor. A coffee shop is also planned for the first floor.
