Palmisano Group, a Louisiana AGC member, recently announced the addition of Brandon Young as the commercial construction company’s BIM manager. Building Information Modeling, or BIM, is a project delivery process which streamlines the construction process by virtually prototyping projects using 3D computer models before construction even begins. A main benefit of BIM is project performance prediction. BIM ensures all parties involved know what is scheduled to happen before crews even begin working in the field, thereby reducing and/or eliminating costly re-work.

Palmisano Group will use BIM to turn consultants’ 3D design models into 4D construction-caliber models, adding the extra dimension of time. Integrating the schedule into the construction models puts all stakeholders on the same page in terms of optimizing the construction of the project.

As Palmisano Group’s BIM manager, Young oversees the building information models and 4D construction simulations. He leads a team of Palmisano employees using 4D computer models to facilitate the construction process.

Young says the goal of BIM is to build more efficiently and with less waste.  "Palmisano’s customers will benefit from BIM because it enables us to build for less cost, on a faster schedule and with better communication among stakeholders. The results of these collaborations are higher quality buildings with less risk than traditional 2D-based workflows."

Young has 15 years of BIM-related experience in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industries. He has provided virtual design and construction services to infrastructure projects such as the Fulton Street Transit Center in New York City, the Haramain High Speed Rail project in Saudi Arabia, and the Medupi Power Station project in South Africa.

Palmisano is a unique solution to commercial and civil construction needs in South Louisiana, with roots in the construction market dating back to 1950. Their key team members have continuity that is rare in the industry, having worked together on projects for the last fifteen years. The strengths of the organization include a superior level of customer service, excellent communication, people who are accustomed to working as a team, high quality workmanship, safe and clean jobsites, and working smarter to provide the best value.
