BOND, a 108-year-old construction management and general contracting firm and AGC of Connecticut and AGC of Massachusetts member, recently celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony for Lawrence General Hospital’s (LGH) new, 42,250 sq-ft surgical building as part of a $72 million effort to improve healthcare delivery and expand the reach of the hospital and its services. BOND is providing preconstruction and construction management services for the effort.

The new surgical building represents the single largest capital investment in Lawrence General Hospital’s history. Working in close collaboration with LGH representatives and the design firm MorrisSwitzer ~ Environments for Health, BOND will build the new facility to house replacements for the current 50-year-old operating rooms, an interventional radiology room, a surgical day care, post anesthesia care unit and pre-admission testing space. The renovations of $17 million in inpatient unit and room renovations in the existing hospital are currently underway.

The groundbreaking for the surgical building comes after the dismantling and demolition of the Lamprey Annex and School of Nursing buildings. BOND managed the demolition and enabling efforts related to this first phase of the project, carefully rerouting campus infrastructure to ensure critical hospital operations were maintained throughout.

"BOND is excited to be involved with Lawrence General Hospital’s vital expansion," said BOND President Robert Murray. "This state-of-the-art facility is sure to enhance a standard of care for the Merrimack Valley community, and we are proud to be a part of it."

Lawrence General Hospital expects its new surgical building to be in full operation by 2016.

Since 1907, BOND has been involved in some of the region’s most complex vertical and horizontal construction projects. With two distinct groups, operating as construction managers for academic and healthcare clients, and self-performing general contractors for the power and energy industry, BOND is well-known for delivering reliable, safe, and high quality work.
