Batson-Cook Construction, an AGC of Georgia and an Austin Chapter member, has made several strategic personnel moves in its Atlanta office including promoting David Barksdale to chief operating officer, naming Kevin Appleton, Curt Rigney and Dave Schoendorf senior vice presidents and hiring Jason Waddell as director of construction technology.

"Over the last four years, Batson-Cook has grown significantly as a result of new business including projects with major Atlanta-area hospital systems, Mitsubishi Power Systems and Novare Group," said Batson-Cook President and CEO Randy Hall. "As a result of this increased volume, we have restructured our executive-level management."

David BarksdaleIn his new position, Chief Operating Officer David Barksdale oversees all construction operations for the firm’s four offices; Atlanta, West Point, Ga., Tampa, Fla. and Jacksonville, Fla.  Barksdale had served as the senior vice president and general manager of the Atlanta office since January 2011.  Previously he held the same position in the Jacksonville, Fla. office, where he began his career more than 35 years ago.

As newly appointed senior vice presidents, Kevin Appleton, Curt Rigney and Dave Schoendorf are ultimately responsible for strategic planning, business development and all construction operations essential to the growth of their respective business units.  Appleton oversees all healthcare construction, having been instrumental in the construction of all major healthcare projects for the company’s Atlanta office for more than 20 years.

Rigney is responsible for private commercial development projects and is currently leading the successful SkyHouse program, which includes $661 million in new high-rise multi-family construction across the Southeastern United States.  He also managed the $400 million Duke Energy Center project in Charlotte, N.C., the first high-rise building in the nation to receive LEED®   Platinum Certification.

Along with Rigney, Schoendorf will also focus on private development projects.  He joined Batson-Cook Construction last year after 24 years at a competing firm, where he served as a senior vice president and ran three offices with revenues of more than $1.5 billion in healthcare, high-rise, residential, religious, education, assisted living, commercial offices, parking deck and mission critical projects.

Batson-Cook Construction has also named Jason Waddell director of construction technology. He is responsible for the company-wide implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) software and solutions, and ensuring Batson-Cook Construction is using the best products to meet owners’ and subcontractors’ needs during pre-construction and construction.  In addition to working closely with company leadership, Waddell conducts BIM training for project engineers, managers and field staff.
