Gray Construction, an AGC of Kentucky member headquartered in Lexington, received the Grand Award for construction safety excellence at the 2014 Safety Awards Breakfast in Las Vegas on March 5, 2014. Selected from the 25 first-place winners of the 2014 Construction Safety Excellence Awards (CSEA), Gray's team willingly accepted this "Best of the Best" recognition.

On Wednesday, March 5, 2014, AGC of America and Willis presented the 2014 Construction Safety Excellence Award (CSEA) winners during the association’s 95th Annual Convention in Las Vegas. Paul Diederich, 2013 president, AGC of America, and Paul Becker, chairman, construction practice, Willis, recognized 53 companies for their outstanding safety performance.

The final round of judging took place in the days leading up to the awards ceremony. Final judges included Mike Fredebeil, Willis; Bill Parsons, Headquarters Air Force Safety Center; Anthony Militello, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC); Mike Sterrett, Mirada Consulting; and Bob Fitzgerald, Southern Company Services.

As Paul Becker acknowledged at the 2014 Safety Awards Breakfast, safety boils down to vision, planning, execution, passion and commitment. These awards recognize companies that have developed and implemented premier safety and loss prevention programs and showcases companies that have achieved continuous improvements and maintenance of their safety and health management systems. In addition, the program recognizes those construction companies that excel at safety and health performance, examining each candidate’s commitment to safety and occupational health management and risk control.

AGC annually participates in National Work Zone Awareness Week to highlight the dangers motorists not obeying speed limits or not staying alert in highway construction work zones pose for construction workers. This year's National Work Zone Awareness Week will take place April 6-12, 2014, with the theme "Work Zone Speeding - A Costly Mistake." To get a better handle on the impact of vehicle crashes at AGC member work sites, we have prepared a brief survey and encourage you to take a few minutes to complete it today. AGC will be releasing the survey results as part of Work Zone Awareness Week events. The deadline to complete this survey is Monday, March 31.

Please click here to access the survey.

Should you have any questions, please contact Brian Deery, AGC's senior director of the Highway & Transportation Division, at deeryb@agc.org or (703) 837-5319. Thank you in advance.
