Brasfield & Gorrie, an Alabama AGC, AGC Georgia and TEXO member, recently entered a partnership agreement with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) aimed at enhancing jobsite safety on the construction of a new Home Office for HealthSouth Corp. An agreement signing took place following a groundbreaking celebration held Nov. 7, 2016, at the site of the new headquarters, located in the Liberty Park area of Birmingham.

HealthSouth will relocate its headquarters from its current location at Grandview Plaza to the new facility upon its completion in the spring of 2018. Situated on a 21-acre site, the 200,000-sq-ft building will include office space, covered parking, outdoor patio areas, an onsite cafeteria, walking trails, a fitness center and space for large meetings, training, and development. The facility also includes room for future employment expansion.

Brasfield & Gorrie is entering the partnership with OSHA for construction of this facility based on past successes of other project partnerships with the agency. "In our experience, partnering with OSHA provides the project with additional expertise and supervision, ensuring that every possible measure is taken to create a safe site and sound facility," said Brasfield & Gorrie regional safety director Steve Sawyer. "It requires extensive planning, detailed coordination and ongoing vigilance at every level to maintain a safe and healthy work environment."

OSHA’s Strategic Partnership Program offers employers, workers, professional and trade associations, labor organizations and other stakeholders guidance in developing safety goals, implementing effective strategies and measuring performance. Throughout the course of construction, OSHA will collaborate with Brasfield & Gorrie and their subcontractors to evaluate safety and health protocols and procedures, helping them to implement best practices on the project. Also, OSHA will visit the site to review and provide feedback on performance.

Serving as general contractor, Brasfield & Gorrie is teaming with Corporate Realty Development and architect M. Arthur Gensler Jr. & Associates to construct the new Home Office for HealthSouth.
