Partnership Agreement Aims to Enhance Job Safety on the Atlanta Braves' SunTrust Park Project

In March, American Builders 2017 entered into a partnership agreement with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Georgia Tech Research Institute and AGC Georgia. The partnership aims to enhance jobsite safety on the SunTrust Park project and educate workers about health and safety best practices.

Based on several other successful project partnerships with OSHA, the construction team for American Builders 2017 believed the Strategic Partnership Program would benefit SunTrust Park as well as OSHA and its partners.

"In our experience, partnering with OSHA provides the project with additional expertise and supervision, ensuring that our team takes every measure possible to create a safe site and sound facility," said Lisa Capicik, safety director, American Builders 2017. "It requires extensive planning, detailed coordination and ongoing vigilance at every level to maintain a safe and healthy work environment."

The Strategic Partnership Program offers employers, workers, professional and trade associations, labor organizations and other stakeholders guidance in developing safety goals, implementing effective strategies and measuring performance. Throughout the course of SunTrust Park’s construction, OSHA will collaborate with the American Builders 2017 team and their subcontractors to evaluate safety and health protocols and procedures, helping them to implement best practices on the project. Also, OSHA will visit the site to review and provide feedback on performance.

Georgia Tech Research Institute and AGC Georgia will also be involved in the program. This OSHA partnership is AGC Georgia’s first as a signatory participant.

American Builders 2017 broke ground on SunTrust Park in August 2014. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2017.

American Builders 2017, a joint venture between Brasfield & Gorrie, Mortenson Construction, Barton Malow Company and New South Construction Company, all AGC member companies, provides construction management and general contractor services, specializing in professional sports construction. The team has more than 225 years of construction experience and has completed more than 330 sports projects, including football stadiums, baseball parks, soccer stadiums, basketball arenas and more. American Builders 2017’s ballpark experience includes Target Field, Coors Field, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Turner Field, Minute Maid Park, PNC Park and Coolray Field as well as SunTrust Park, which is currently under construction.

SunTrust Park is being developed by the Braves in partnership with the Cobb-Marietta Coliseum and Exhibit Hall Authority and will be completed by Opening Day 2017. Located in Atlanta at the intersection of I-75 and I-285 in the bustling Cumberland CID, SunTrust Park will flow directly into the surrounding development, creating a vibrant atmosphere with unique shops, restaurants, offices, residences and entertainment venues that are accessible 365 days a year.
