Commissioner (Ret.) Paul F. Schonewolf, life member of Niskayuna Fire District #1 and member of North Queensbury Fire Department, passed away on October 18, 2022. He led the association as president from 2005-2006.
 
 
   
Join NYSAFC at the The Oncenter in Syracuse from June 14-17, 2023! The Northeast's premier emergency services conference and expo will feature hundreds of exhibits, hands-on training and classroom-based education, and networking events for fire/EMS personnel of all ranks.
 
Through this annual program, PERMA and NYSAFC assist members in obtaining gear washers and dryers. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be members of both NYSAFC (Department Members only) and PERMA. Applications are due by November 8, 2022.

On October 11, 2022, New York state honored 11 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty during the 25th Annual New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, NY. A 2022 Fallen Firefighters Memorial Tribute video and a video of the ceremony can be viewed on the DHSES website.
 
Thousands of mourners honored FDNY EMS Lieutenant Alison Russo-Elling, who was stabbed to death last month in an unprovoked attack.
 
Firefighter Elvis Reyes died last month from apparent complications from surgery related to an on-duty injury.
 
Fire Protection Inspector William Klobus died earlier this month.
 
The suspect was arrested in 1982 for attempted murder when a Niagara Falls firefighter, identified as Charles Palmore, was killed in a fire.
 
The majority of the building was covered in racist graffiti and a window was broken earlier this year.

The 48th Annual Fire & Life Safety Educators' Conference will be held May 5-7, 2023, at the New York State Academy of Fire Science. A call for presenters has been issued for this event, co-hosted by OFPC and NYSAFC. Proposal forms are due by November 30.

Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries supply power to many devices, including smartphones, laptops, scooters, e-bikes, smoke alarms, toys, bluetooth headphones, and even cars. Li-ion batteries store a large amount of energy and can pose a threat if not treated properly
