New York City will require police officers, firefighters, and other municipal workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or be placed on unpaid leave, Mayor Bill de Blasio said.
 
The two rabbis accused of causing the fatal March adult home fire while torch-cleaning ovens for Passover have been indicted on multiple felony charges. Firefighter Jared Lloyd died when the Evergreen Court Home for Adults collapsed while he rescued residents with other volunteer firefighters. Oliver Hueston, a resident, also died from the fire.
 
On October 5, Governor Kathy Hochul honored the firefighters who have been added to the New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial during a ceremony at the Empire State Plaza.
